A transgender American spokeswoman for Ukraine hit back at an alt-right political activist who assumed she was detransitioning after posting a video without her wig on.

Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, 46, was reinstated as a Ukrainian military spokesman in October after being suspended by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense the previous month.

She was removed after hitting back at Republican Senator JD Vance in a video filmed in front of the Ukraine Territorial Defense Forces logo where she said that the ‘Russian devils’ will ‘pay for their crimes.’

Now – she is hitting back at another Republican, the alt-right political activist Jack Posobiec, who claimed Ashton-Cirillo was detransitioning to his 2.3 million followers on X (formerly Twitter).

Posobiec re-shared a video of Ashton-Cirillo without her wig on and said: ‘Looks like Ukraine’s ex-spokesman is now de-transitioning as the US support for the Ukraine War is winding down.’

Ashton-Cirillo had uploaded the candid video to her person X (formerly Twitter) account where she updated her followers on her new assignment with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

‘So I’m now two days into my new assignment with ZSU and in some ways it’s more rewarding than I could have ever asked for in other ways it’s by far the most challenging’, she said.

‘It has nothing to do with presenting like this,’ she said – referring to her more stereotypically masculine appearance, complete with a short haircut and and all-black Yankees baseball cap.

The 46-year-old told viewers: ‘In ZSU results matter, carrying out the mission matters.

‘Ultimately for me – the last week or two I’ve been full of revelations, revelations that in many ways words cant express.

‘I just wanted to continue to say thanks for the support, thanks for the energy, thanks for understanding that at the end of the road we will find victory  and we will find everything that we know is out there. Slava Ukraine.’

The Ukrainian Army said they suspended Ashton-Cirillo in September because her words in the footage she uploaded were were not approved by higher-ups, though it is unclear exactly which statements provoked the suspension.

In the footage, Ashton-Crillo said: ‘Russia hates the truth that their obsessive focus on a Ukrainian volunteer is simply allowing the light of the Ukrainian nation’s honesty to shine brightly.

‘Junior Sergeant Sarah Ashton-Cirillo has been suspended from the duties of the spokesperson of the Ukraine Territorial Defense Forces while an investigation is underway,’ the Ministry of Defense said last month.

Ashton-Cirillo also told AFP in a recent interview that she had learned to ’embrace the hate of the Russians’ who have mocked her gender identity.

In the video, her voice trembled with rage as she hissed: ‘Next week, the teeth of the Russian devils will gnash ever harder, and their rabid mouths will foam in an uncontrollable frenzy as the world will see a favored Kremlin propagandist pay for their crimes.

Ashton-Cirillo had started taking feminizing hormones ‘on and off’ in 2018 before making the decision to transition in May 2019 – after what she described as a ’35-year-wait to embrace myself’

‘And this puppet of Putin is only the first. Russia’s war criminal propagandist will all be hunted down, and justice will be served as we in Ukraine are led on this mission by faith in God, liberty and complete liberation.’

The native New Yorker added that she had editorial control of her own production and aims to avoid a dry, number-based approach to covering the war.
