EXCLUSIVE: Sasha Obama smokes a cigarette and pores over an environmentalist book as she looks thoughtful sitting under a tree in LA – days after Barack and Michelle spent their anniversary apart
- Sasha, 22, spent a lazy Saturday in the park, perusing over the 1996 philosophical novel, The Story of B
- She puffed on a cigarette as she listened to her $550 Airpods Max headphones – still no sign of a job five months after she graduated from USC
Sasha Obama was enjoying a peaceful weekend in Los Angeles as she soaked up the late summer sunshine with a book and a cigarette on Saturday.
The former first daughter was looking casual in an off-the-shoulder purple top and easy-fitting white trousers, blending in with other park-goers as she relaxed in a stripy fold-up chair.
Topping the look off with a pair of owlish spectacles she seemed engrossed in a Daniel Quinn novel as she sipped from a hunter-green Hydro Flask, breaking away occasionally to glance at her phone.
Blocking out distractions with a pair of $550 Airpods Max headphones the 22-year-old kept it natural with minimal makeup, and her long, braided, brown locks pulled back in a ponytail.
The 1996 novel – The Story of B – tells the story of a Catholic priest who is sent by his order to spy on a charismatic environmentalist they think might be the antichrist and who they eventually try to assassinate.

Sasha has been frequently seen out and about in the city following her graduation ceremony at USC with proud parents Barack and Michelle Obama looking on in May.
But her parents have seen little of each other since as Michelle has enjoyed a prolonged summer holiday with friends Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg on the director’s new $250 million super yacht as it cruises around the Mediterranean.
And the couple were thousands of miles apart as they marked their 31st wedding anniversary on October 3.
But they did post gushing anniversary tributes to one another on social media with Barack describing the former First Lady as ‘brilliant, kind, funny, and beautiful’.
She in turn uploaded a photo that featured her and her husband of more than three decades posing in front of a city backdrop.
’31 years, and a lifetime ago,’ she wrote.
‘I love going through life with you by my side, @BarackObama. Happy anniversary, honey.’
On Thursday the couple’s youngest daughter was spotted working up a sweat on a treadmill at a gym in downtown Los Angeles and a few days earlier she was spotted handing her car keys to a Subaru dealer in the city.

Sasha has followed in the footsteps of her older sister, Malia Obama, 25, who relocated to LA to pursue a career as a screenwriter after graduating from Harvard University in 2021.
The pair now share an apartment despite mother Michelle revealing ‘there was a period of time when they couldn’t stand each other’.
‘The thing that I love the most is that those two girls are each other’s best friends,’ she told Today hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager in November.
‘I said, you wait, you are going to wake up one day and you’re going to look over at that other person, and you’re going to know that you two share something very unique, especially given what they’ve been through,’ she explained.
‘To see them in that place where they’re one another’s support systems and they’ve got each other’s backs, it’s the thing that a mother would want.’
But both daughters have been repeatedly spotted smoking, a habit they may have picked up during their father’s prolonged attempts to kick the habit.
Barack, 62, began smoking as a teenager and he famously promised his wife, Michelle, 59, that he would stop before he campaigned for president.
In 2009, he admitted during a press conference, ‘As a former smoker I constantly struggle with it.
‘Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I daily smoker or a constant smoker? No. I don’t do it in front of my kids. I don’t do it in front of my family.
‘And, you know, I would say that I am 95 per cent cured, but there are times where I mess up.’

The former president appears to have brushed off claims he had cocaine-fuelled gay sex after conman Larry Sinclair alleged the future president performed oral sex on him twice in Chicago in 1999.
Sinclair – who has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions on forgery, fraud and larceny charges, and has served prison time in Arizona, Florida, and Colorado – first made the claims in 2008, while Barack was gearing up to run for president.
But the claims were given a new lease of life in August when The New York Post released a letter written by Barack in 1982, when he was 21 years old, to his girlfriend Alex McNear.
In it, he wrote that he ‘loves making love to men daily, but in the imagination,’ according to the publication.
