Mom blasts in-laws for charging her $200 for Thanksgiving meal

Impoverished mom blasts in-laws for charging her $200 for Thanksgiving meal, even though they can’t cook

  • A 20-year-old pregnant woman was requested to contribute $200 toward dinner
  • She is currently on food stamps
  • The woman refused to pay and is questioning if she should still eat with in-laws

A pregnant woman shared her outrage after claiming her in-laws charged her $200 to attend their Thanksgiving dinner, even though they’re terrible cooks.

The 20-year-old created an ‘Am I the a******’ Reddit about a Thanksgiving dinner with her sister-in-law (SIL) and her wife, who aren’t the best cooks in the family.

‘… SIL calls my husband and asks when we are taking her shopping for thanksgiving so we can pay for the groceries, she wanted about $200 in my food stamps,’ the Reddit user wrote, explaining that she lives below the poverty line.

She also wrote that her mother-in-law (MIL) asked her and her husband to contribute their remaining food stamps toward the Thanksgiving dinner.

‘We couldn’t even if I wanted to give it because I don’t have that much money, I’m pregnant and we have a child, the money runs out quick,’ she added.

The woman wrote in her Reddit post that she and her family are on food stamps because she is poor and stated that her ‘SIL has a nice job and her wife’s family is very wealthy and well off.’

‘I will not give my last dollars towards a meal I’m barely going to eat because they’re bad cooks, and make myself go hungry,’ she stated.

The author continued to explain that her MIL said she needed to ‘stop eating so much and spending the food stamps,’ which are only in the pregnant woman’s name.

Her MIL then complained that because her daughter-in-law (DIL) would not spend the money, she would have to pay the $200 herself.

After being offended by what her MIL said, the Reddit poster decided to skip that dinner entirely.

‘I’m decided I won’t bring my child to their thanksgiving and I’m having my own with just my husband and our child,’ she stated.

‘I used the last $40 on the food stamps that I had and was able to get a turkey and all the sides with coupons.’

Her husband still wants to go to her SIL’s Thanksgiving dinner, and the pregnant woman is now questioning if she should let bygones be bygones and bring her family to the event.

Reddit users have spoken, and according to the social media platform users, the woman is not the a******.

She specified the situation that also involves her mother-in-law, and says that her in-laws are well taken care of while she is on food stamps

Reddit users who have shared their opinions on the matter have referred to the pregnant woman’s in-laws as ‘greedy or entitled,’ while others reminded people that what her in-laws urged her to do with her food stamps is a crime.

‘That’s what happens when you use food stamps to pay for someone else’s food,’ one person commented.

‘This is a crime and could get you permanently banned from the program, fines, and even jail time.’

The commenter also questioned the woman if her in-laws know this is a crime and that she could reported this to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) if necessary.

‘Your husband will be TA (the a******) if he attends. This is so wrong on so many levels, and he needs to stick b you.’

The user also claims this could be considered recipient fraud, which according to the USDA, can lead to program suspension, repayment of benefits obtained illegally, and criminal charges and prosecution.

Most people of Reddit have commented that the pregnant woman is not in the wrong, and some people have criticized her in-laws and husband

Some people who don’t believe she’s the a******, however, have questioned the woman’s family choices since she is currently on food stamps.

‘I would like to say something, although this is none of my business… Why do you and your husband wanted to add another baby into this world, know that you are relying on food stamps??,’ asked a Reddit user.

Despite the amount of people who said the woman is not the a******, one person stated that everyone sucks here (ESH).

‘Why are you having kids you can’t afford?,’ they asked.

‘Spending your last $40 on one meal doesn’t seem remotely smart, especially as you have one child her and one otw (on the way).’
