Flight cancellations live updates – 2,600 U.S. flights are canceled on Sunday and 8,000 delayed as Omicron sparks chaos

THOUSANDS of flights around the country are being canceled daily, as the holidays wrap up and Covid-19 cases are on the rise.

As of 10.40pm Sunday, 2,676 flights have been canceled in the US, and 4,417 globally.

Flight cancelations have been trending steadily since Christmas Eve, but they have reached a new peak this weekend.

On New Years Day, there were 2,749 US flight cancelations and 6,968 delays, according to FlightAware.

The recent spike in Covid-19 cases has put airline employees out of work, and the highly contagious Omicron variant has been deemed the root cause of flight cancelations.

Despite the impact Covid-19 has had on air travel, many flight cancelations in Chicago, Utah, Seattle, and the Rocky Mountains region have been deemed weather-related, as a snowstorm hit the area on New Years Day.
