Canny shoemaker creates oversize footwear to help people keep their distance and stop coronavirus spread

A SHOEMAKER has done his bit to help maintain social distancing — by creating some oversize footwear.

The shoes, with a minimum size of nearly 20in, are the brainchild of experienced shoemaker Grigore Lup, who has a factory in the city of Cluj, Romania.

Mr Lup said: “I just got tired of seeing and hearing that people do not respect social distancing and decided to make shoes that mean no one would come closer to you than they should.”

He says that creating the huge shoes takes twice as long as normal footwear, adding that the long boots are made from 100 per cent natural leather.

The shoemaker says he hopes the footwear, which sell at an average of £93, will soon be sold in high numbers as they can help keep people safe from infections from those who are not respecting social distancing.
