What has Rachel Adedeji said about Hollyoaks and Black Lives Matter?

Hollyoaks has launched an investigation after actress Rachel Adedeji accused the Channel 4 soap of racism in response to their post on the Black Lives Matter movement.

Rachel, 28, who has played Lisa Loveday on Hollyoaks since 2016, took to Twitter yesterday after the soap had shared a video of Kelle Bryan – who plays Martine Deveraux –in support of Black Lives Matter on social media.

The soap had shared a video of actress Kelle, who explained that the team had been ‘busy behind the scenes having lots of important conversations’, and added that they’ll be ‘kickstarting with a podcast all about racism’.

What did Rachel Adedeji say about Hollyoaks and Black Lives Matter?

Rachel tweeted a typed statement on Friday titled: ‘My thoughts on the Hollyoaks response to Black Lives Matter’ saying that she was ‘disappointed’ in her workplace and cited a number of shocking slurs she said she has been subjected to and the lack of diversity in the directing team as just some of the reasons she has decided to speak out.

The actress and singer tweeted: ‘I am disappointed with Hollyoaks’ approach with showing solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement yesterday. Did black lives matter when I was told “you’re all the same” via a make up artist you employed and remains in employment to this day?

‘Did Black Lives Matter when a number of female black actors were forced to drastically change their hair, because if not, the viewers “would not be able to tell them apart”?

‘Do Black Lives Matter when my fellow black castmates are deemed “angry, aggressive and too vocal?”

A statement shared on the soap’s Twitter page simply read: ‘Hollyoaks has zero tolerance on racism.

‘We are taking Rachel Adedeji’s comments extremely seriously and are investigating.’
