Tiger King: Here’s what the cast of the hit Netflix series are doing now

Hello all you cool cats and kittens…

If you just read that phrase and immediately knew where it was from then you must, like the rest of us, be here because you’ve been indulging in Netflix’s new docuseries Tiger King.

The docuseries comes from the same producer that gave us FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, which unveiled one of the biggest scams in festival history and now, to aid us through self-isolation boredom patches, Tiger King is here.

The seven part series has all sorts of chaos thrown in, as we are introduced to a man named Joe Exotic who owned an Oklahoma-based animal park. His real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage but he later changed his name to reflect his interests in exotic animals.

As well as Joe, we’re introduced to several other big characters who narrate the true story, from animal activist Carole Baskin, to fellow big cat lover and breeder, Bhagavan “Doc” Antle.

The question on everyone’s lips, however, is where are these people now? Let’s take a look…

Joe Exotic

In the series, we see that petting zoo owner, Joe, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for then trying to hire a hitman to kill an animal-rights activist, who was persistent in trying to get Joe’s zoo shut down for his treatment of animals and for killing five tiger cubs.

Now, the show’s protagonist is representing himself in a lawsuit against the police, in which he has demanded $94 million for false imprisonment, false arrest, perjury and entrapment.

Carole Baskin

The notorious Carole Baskin wasn’t a happy lady following the Tiger King docuseries, and took to her Big Cat Rescue blog to refute the insinuation that she may have killed her husband.

Carole, who labelled the claims as “the most ludicrous of all the lies,” went on to say: “When the directors of the Netflix documentary Tiger King came to us five years ago they said they wanted to make the big cat version of Blackfish (the documentary that exposed abuse at SeaWorld) that would expose the misery caused by the rampant breeding of big cat cubs for cub petting exploitation and the awful life the cats lead in roadside zoos and back yards if they survive.

“There are not words for how disappointing it is to see that the series not only does not do any of that, but has had the sole goal of being as salacious and sensational as possible to draw viewers.”

Carole is the owner of the non-profit exotic cat sanctuary Big Cat Rescue, which she still operates.

Howard Baskin

Howard, husband of Carole, has also been very vocal in defending his claims that his wife killed her ex husband. Howard, who appeared throughout Tiger King, took to Facebook to post a message after the series premiere.

"In 15 years of living together, we have never had an argument," he said in the video. "We have never even had a harsh word where the other had to come back later and say, 'I'm sorry I said that.'"

Jeff Lowe

Jeff Lowe owns the Wynnewood Animal Park with wife Lauren, who we met in the series too. And it seems things are going well for the couple, as an update from Lauren on Instagram saw her saying that she and Jeff will be opening their next zoo in Oklahoma in the summer of this year.

Rick Kirkman

The show’s producer, Rick Kirkman, lives in Norway with his wife and, according to Variety, Rick is making reindeer stew and working on a brand new documentary “about a man with an exciting double life.” Well, if it’s anything like Tiger King, bring it on!

Doc Antle

Doc is still going strong down at the Myrtle Beach Safari where he resides with his partners. His park remains open and the “50 acre preserve provides plenty of area for social distance.”

According to Time magazine, Doc disputed his portrayal in the Netflix series in a now-deleted Instagram post, saying: “It is important to understand that this series is not a documentary; it’s sensationalized entertainment with paid participants.”

He added: “Over the decades we have heard every sort of fantasy scenario regarding our facility. Many of these less-than-flattering mistruths have been manufactured by those in the animal rights movement that oppose animal ambassador programs of any sort.”

Dillon Passage

Whilst we don’t hear too much from Dillon Passage, husband of Joe Passage, it’s reported that he is still in fact married to Joe, after he posted: “I’m still married to Joe but my social media platform isn’t used for any Joe things."

John Finlay

Last but by no means least, John Finlay, who is Joe’s ex husband, now has a whole new set of teeth and works as a welder. John also lives with his fiancé, Stormey.

Finlay and wife Stormey Sanders have also started a Facebook page titled ‘The Truth About John Finlay,’ where he shares updates on his life, including various photos and videos.

"Yes I have my teeth fixed," Finlay said in one post. "The producers of the Netflix series had video and pictures of this but chose not to show it."
