The final series of The Walking Dead is right around the corner as the likes of Daryl (played by Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) prepare to face off against walkers and new enemies the Reapers. Season 11 has a number of intriguing storylines to delve into, but arguably none more so than the relationship between Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Ahead of the AMC horror’s return, a number of promos and first-look clips have teased the tense back and forth the two will face – but star Morgan has now hinted it’ll end in murderous circumstances for one of them.

Maggie and Negan’s rivalry dates years back to when the former leader of the Saviours attacked Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of the crew.

In Negan’s very first scene, he callously murdered two of the group, including Maggie’s husband Glenn (Steven Yeun).

Ever since, Maggie has vowed for revenge on Negan, although had to leave the fray halfway through season nine as she struggled to come to terms with him merely being kept as a prisoner.

Now he’s become an integral part of the community following the show’s time jump and Maggie has returned after all these years to discover the man who killed her spouse is now living among the group.

Heading into season 11, however, Negan has proved his worth by killing the Whisperers’ leader Alpha (Samantha Morton) and now he and the crew must return to Alexandria.

But it won’t be easy thanks to not only the threat of the Reapers, but Negan and Maggie butting heads along the way.

And while spoilers are being kept heavily guarded and under wraps, Negan actor Morgan has spoken out on how he sees it ending.

“He’d done some good things. Then suddenly, Maggie’s back, and he’s back at square one from nine years ago, show-wise,” Morgan began.

“It’s precarious at best, and at worst? Potentially deadly,” he added to TVLine.

“I think she’s going to have to kill him or he’s going to have to kill her, especially as we find them in the first two episodes.”

Could Morgan have just all but sealed the fact either Maggie or Negan will die at the hands of the other?

It certainly wouldn’t be an unlikely event given how much bad blood there is between the two and Morgan’s words may just seal the deal.

There’s also a huge clue from the season 11 promo which some fans think could foreshadow a death for Maggie.

In the action-packed trailer, Maggie can be seen clinging onto a ledge for dear life in a split-second shot.

Could this be the moment Negan carries out his plans to kill Maggie, seeing her fall to her death?

Fans will have to tune into The Walking Dead when it returns to find out exactly what the future holds for the pair but they’re not the only characters with intriguing storylines.

Season 11 will also have to address the introduction of the Commonwealth, a group famous from the comic books.

Eugene (Joshua McDermitt), Ezekiel (Khary Payton), Princess (Paola Lazaro) and Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) were last seen in the group’s custody.

But will they be able to escape unharmed? Or will the Commonwealth help take down the Reapers?

The Walking Dead season 11 premieres on AMC in the USA on August 22 and on August 23 on Star via Disney+ in the UK.
