June (played by Elisabeth Moss) concluded the third season by smuggling over 50 children into Canada. As her efforts to reunite with her husband Luke (O. T. Fagbenle) progress, The Handmaid’s Tale fans think the series’ next outing on Hulu spells disaster for June’s other love interest, Nick Blaine (Max Minghella).

Based on Margaret Atwood’s bleak dystopian novel of the same name, The Handmaid’s Tale offers a glimpse at an oppressive alternative future under the control of the patriarchal Gilead.
In the gripping season three finale, Handmaid June succeeded in smuggling the state’s vulnerable children into the safe haven of Canada.
Unfortunately, her victory came with a heavy cost as a violent altercation with a Gilead guard has left her bleeding out from a potentially mortal wound.
Elisabeth Moss was in Toronto set to reprise her role for the filming of season four before production was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.

When the prestige series finally returns to Hulu, fans are predicting a much more significant role for June’s former lover, and the father of her second child, Nick Blaine.
Nick has since been promoted to Commander status himself, but he also suffered a heavily reduced role throughout season three.
Some fans have speculated Nick will be featured much more frequently in upcoming episodes, though others have taken to Reddit to suggest his time on the show may nearly be up.
Redditor ChelseaLT16 proposed the theory when they pleaded in The Handmaid’s Tale subreddit for more Nick content in season four.
They posted: “We definitely need more Nick scenes, like him writing a letter to his daughter or just a moment where we get to see him vulnerable.
“Does anyone else get the sinking feeling that Nick is going to end up dying in season 4? Maybe trying to get Hannah out for June, or in order to save June/Hannah. I really do hope we get to see more of him! Also the actor who plays him is phenomenal!”
As Nick has recently become one of the newest Gilead Commanders for the series, fans have also suggested he could play a more villainous role in the next season.
However, his previous actions, including reconciling with June in the third season, suggest he may instead work with the rebellious Handmaids to take down the regime from the inside.

Another fan leapt to Nick’s defence when they responded to suggestions the new Commander will decide to betray June in the next episodes.
They said: “I agree, we need more Nick Blaine in this show. I’d love to see them flesh out his motivations a little better so viewers will stop dismissing him or assuming he’s a bad guy, because he’s really always one step ahead of where you think he is.”
Other viewers were disappointed in Nick’s limited presence in season three and predicted the next instalment could be the perfect opportunity for the writers to take his role to new heights.
One fan continued: “I think S3 was pretty bad from a Nick standpoint. He just became sidelined.”

“And whilst his silent brooding thing made sense in the Waterford household where the walls had ears and they were totally trapped, once he was promoted and had much more freedom to express himself…..he just kept on staring rather blankly ahead.
“So I kind of lost interest in him. But I’m hoping S4 will at least show him as a man of action, since he’s clearly not a man of conversation.”
Whether or not Max Minghella’s tenure in the dystopian drama will come to an end in season four, Hulu subscribers are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the fight against Gilead.
