ITV series Quiz will be kicking off this evening (Monday, April 13) at 9pm and will be airing over three consecutive nights. The show stars Fleabag star Sian Clifford, Matthew Macfadyen of Succession fame and Good Omens’ Michael Sheen. Express.co.uk spoke to the stars about the location and settings of the new show.
Where is Quiz on ITV set?
Quiz is set in 2001 in Britain, shortly before the 9/11 terror attacks in New York and is a dramatization of the so-called “coughing” controversy on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire involving Major Charles Ingram, his wife Diana and a lecturer called Tecwen Whittock.
The show is based on a popular West End production, which was conceived by playwright James Graham.
Graham became inspired to write the play after reading about the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire coughing scandal, which shed more light on the case.
The playwright wanted to explore the story through the prism of fake news and how facts and events are interpreted in a post-truth era.

The show will be set in various locations including the Wiltshire village where the Ingrams lived, the ITV studios where the show was filmed, and Southwark Crown Court where the trio were found guilty of conspiring to cheat on the ITV quiz show.
Speaking to media including Express.co.uk, Graham said: “We start with the impression that you and I had at the very beginning in the way that he [Major Ingram] was painted in the press, which was an idiot.
“He was publicly mocked and publicly shamed as someone who couldn’t possibly know the answer to those questions.
“People forget that he has a degree in engineering and he desperately tried to prove to himself that he wasn’t the idiot that the press were calling him.
“He applied to be in MENSA and succeeded becoming in the top two percentile in the country, so he’s not an idiot but I get it and I am as responsible as everybody else for enjoying the mob mentality of that moment.”
Graham said were the “perfect villains” in the media because he was quite well-spoken and in the army.
The couple appeared to be privileged, despite not being very rich and in fact renting their home.
Interestingly, the episode featuring Major Ingram was never broadcast but snippets from the instalment were aired on a documentary hosted by journalist Martin Bashir.
Where is Quiz on ITV filmed?
The show wasn’t actually filmed at the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire studios, where the series is shot now.
The show was filmed at Wimbledon Studios with the crew creating a purpose-built replica of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire set as it looked in 1990s.
Speaking about filming the miniseries, star Macfadyen told ITV: “Walking on to that set for the first time was fantastic.
“No acting was required because you are there under the lights feeling all of that fear real contestants would have felt as they tried to get into the chair.
- The Chase: Bradley Walsh red-faced after player’s saucy admission
“Sitting in the chair itself was great. Although it wasn’t very comfortable. It was so weird sitting opposite Michael Sheen as Chris Tarrant in that studio.”
While actress Clifford said it was “extraordinary” filming on the set and the effect of the cameras and the lighting.
She explained: “When you walk on to the set you think the colours are all wrong. It’s like, ‘This is sort of what I remember but not quite.’
“And then suddenly it comes alive. We had a full lighting and sound rig which was amazing. Everything was going all guns blazing when we would roll. Which was thrilling.”
The exterior scenes involving the court case were shot outside Southwark Crown Court were the real trial took place.
However, the interiors were filmed in a disused court building in Hammersmith.
Quiz also features archival footage from the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire from the series.
