Outlander: What did Sam Heughan reveal was his hardest scene so far?

Outlander fans were delighted when Jamie Fraser star Sam Heughan took to Twitter for a fan Q&A all about his time on the series so far. During the session he revealed what some of the most heartbreaking scenes he has filmed with his co-star Caitriona Balfe have been.

Over five seasons so far, Jamie Fraser has been through a great deal in the epic time travelling drama.

This goes from his early scenes of torture at the hands of Black Jack Randall (played by Tobias Menzies) all the way through to the battles he is currently fighting in North Carolina.

But, at the heart of the whole series has been his love story with Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe), through heartbreak and reunion.

This is why he certainly had plenty to choose from when a fan asked him recently about his most difficult scenes.

During a Q&A on Twitter, fan Yasmina Sotelo asked: “@SamHeughan in all these seasons of Outlander what’s the most challenging scene to film with @caitrionambalfe? And which one is your favorite?”

In response, Heughan replied: “End season one. Terrifying. I would do it now.

“Favourite was probably fireside scene with Cait, season one.”

Fans will remember the horrific season one finale for Jamie, which saw him tortured and raped by Randall.

The episode had some of the most harrowing scenes of the show so far as Jamie was kept prisoner after wagering Claire’s safety.

He then managed to escape with the help of Claire and the others but throughout the episode he struggled to come to terms with the trauma he had experienced .

This included hallucinating Claire was Randall and well as reliving some horrendous flashbacks.

Throughout the episode, Jamie is also at the point of suicide, much to Claire’s horror.

There’s no wonder these were some of the hardest scenes for Heughan to film across the show so far.

Back in 2016, he told Entertainment Weekly about the difficulty of the episode.

He said: “It was really dark and tough and probably some of the most testing stuff I’ve ever done but I kind of really enjoyed it.

“I think every actor enjoys putting themselves through something like that because it’s a challenge.

“It’s fun to play off someone like Tobias. He’s a great actor and it’s good to go to those dark places.

“I was really exhausted and you just can’t wait to leave [the set] but I was really lucky to have such a strong storyline.”

In the tweet, Heughan also alluded to his favourite scene so far as the fireside scene between Claire and Jamie in season one.
