Bonus scene of Det. Muncy's Law and Order: SVU goodbye
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Law and Order SVU.
Law and Order SVU has a revolving door when it comes to its cast but so what was the reason behind Detective Nick Amaro leaving?
For four years, Amaro was Olivia Benson’s (played by Mariska Hartiguy) right-handman until the end of season 16 when a gunfight broke out in the middle of a courtroom.
As sex trafficker Johnny D (Charles Halford) attempted to escape trial, Amaro instinctively tried to stop him but ended up getting caught in the crossfire and was shot.
Thankfully, Amaro wasn’t killed off but the incident did make him re-evaluate his life and so told the rest of the team that he was retiring.
He said he would be starting over again, this time, moving out west so he could be closer to his children.

Why did Danny Pino leave Law and Order SVU as Detective Nick Amaro?
The reasons behind actor Danny Pino leaving Law and Order SVU were both personal and creative.
Executive producer Warren Leight previously said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that it felt like the end of Amaro’s story on the show.
He said “we had put [Amaro] through a lot.
“Although his intentions were good, a lot of what he’d gone through ended up putting him in trouble with the brass downtown.”

The other reason for Amaro’s exit was that Pino himself was ready to move onto pastures anew, with Leight stating how he wanted to “spread his wings a little”.
It didn’t take him very long to move on either, getting a recurring role in Scandal in 2016, followed by an appearance in BrainDead the same year.
Since then, he has been in Gone, One Day at a Time, Fatale and The Good Fight.
His biggest role to date, however, was as Miguel Galindo in Mayans MC for five years.
Regarding what he’s got coming up, Pino will be starring in Hotel Cocaine as a character called Roman Compte.
It isn’t clear when the release date is set as the project is currently still in production.
Pino has been married to his wife Lily Pino since 2022 and share two sons, Luca and Julian.
Law and Order SVU is available to watch on NBC.
