Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) made an emotional exit from EastEnders in August last year after fleeing Albert Square following her attack on Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).
The dramatic storyline was constructed to allow actress Lacey to go on maternity leave at the time, as she was expecting her first child with her husband Matt.
The star welcomed a baby girl, who she named Dusty, last July but apart from making a surprise reappearance in one episode of EastEnders with Martin (James Bye) last October, Lacey is yet to make a full-time return to the soap.
Is Stacey returning to EastEnders?
Back in February, before the UK went into lockdown and soaps like EastEnders to cancel all filming for the time being, Lacey confirmed to The Sun that she would be returning the show once her maternity leave is over.
‘I think it will be hard to go back to work as much as I’m looking forward to working again,’ she said.
‘I will miss Dusty because you get so used to spending all day every day together. She’s great company.’
Lacey’s exact return date hadn’t been confirmed, but it looks likely that it will be delayed as EastEnders halted production of the soap because of the ongoing pandemic.
A BBC spokesperson said in a statement: ‘In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice. The decision was made after the latest government update.
According to the BBC’s director of content, Charlotte Moore, EastEnders will resume filming in June, now that the Government has given television productions such as EastEnders the green light to return to filming.
