BAFTA Film Awards Follows Oscars’ Lead by Postponing 2021 Date

The delay announcement comes following three months of a movie industry shutdown caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic that has affected many countries worldwide.

AceShowbiz -Britain’s BAFTA Film Awards have been postponed by two months, following news the Oscars will be delayed by the same period.

Originally set to run on February 14, 2021, the ceremony will now take place on April 11, 2021.

The delay comes following three months of a movie industry shutdown due to the coronavirus crisis.

“This change from the previously announced date of Feb. 14 acknowledges the impact of the global pandemic and accommodates an extended eligibility period,” a representative for BAFTA said in a statement on Monday, June 15. “Further details on the ceremony will be announced later in the year.”

The announcement comes hours after Academy Awards producers opted to push next year’s Oscars to April 25, 2021 – the latest date in the year the prizegiving has ever been held.

Films like Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet“, “The Trial of the Chicago 7“, and biopics “King Richard” and “Respect” are among the films tipped to land nominations.
