Ben Hillman was on the hunt for a holiday home in the Portuguese town of Alvor, on the Algarve for married couple Yvonne and Graham on A Place in the Sun. The couple fell in love with the first property but their search was thrown into jeopardy when Ben revealed the owner had received an offer on the apartment. However, the presenter managed to secure a deal for the couple who were left in tears after Ben confirmed the property was theirs.
Yvonne and Graham fell in love with Portugal when they first visited their daughter Cheryl who lives in Alvor.
The couple were looking for a two bedroom property as near to the seaside town as possible with a budget of £135,000.
Ben showed the couple a one bedroom apartment for his first offering but the town centre of Alvor was less than a 15 minute walk away.
Yvonne and Graham were thrilled with the property’s location and weren’t too bothered with the size of the apartment.

“I challenge you to find something wrong with this property,” Ben remarked.
“You can’t see the beach,” Graham joked before the couple had a second walk around the apartment.
“Hand on heart I can say that is the best reaction I’ve had to a property,” Ben commented.
Yvonne and Graham were impressed by the first three properties Ben showed them and he was amazed when they admitted all of the apartments were contenders.
The Channel 4 presenter showed the couple a renovation project for the fourth selection which Yvonne and Graham politely declined.
However, as they prepared to look inside the fifth option, Ben revealed the first property had received an offer which the owners were considering.
The couple was impressed with the fifth apartment and concluded they planned to make an offer on either the first or fifth property.
After the search was completed, Ben asked: “Come on drum roll please what’s it going to be property one or property five?”

The couple revealed they wanted to put an offer in on the first apartment they visited.
Ben said: “The asking price for that property was just over £147,000.
“An offer has gone in, having spoken to the agent she has informed me if you were to offer £143,500 that would be your property. Right here, right now, it would be taken off the market.”
“We talked together and we’re thinking of £140,000,” Yvonne replied.
Ben spoke to the agent who relayed a counter offer of £143,000 which the couple accepted.
When the Channel 4 presenter revealed the property was theirs, Yvonne broke down in tears.
“I’m going to well up,” Yvonne said and Ben asked: “Is it a massive relief?”
After a long search the couple admitted they were thrilled to finally purchase their holiday home.
A Place in the Sun airs on weekdays on Channel 4 at 3pm.
