A man has divided opinion after he left a passive aggressive ‘apology’ message to a tour guide who had disturbed his phone call.
An image shared to Reddit shows how Matt – believed to be working in the city of London – lost his temper with a tour guide whilst trying to take an important phone call.
However, many were gobsmacked by Matt’s backhanded apology, with some branding his behaviour as ‘mental’ for trying to control the noise in the street.
An apology note addressed to a tour guide began on a conciliatory note, with Matt apologising for his aggressive behaviour towards the tourism worker.
The note seemingly began as an empathetic apology, however Matt soon instructed the tour guide not to make so much noise in the area as many workers there had ‘stressful jobs’
In what began as sincere message, the London city worker continues to explain that noise from the tour guide was ‘very distracting’ and he was taking an ‘important call’.
But in an odd turn of events, Matt ended the ‘apology’ passive aggressively, instructing the tour guide to make less noise in the area and to be mindful of those who work there.
Despite beginning the note as an apology, Matt signed off the bizarre message with the following: ‘Please note that people work in the area often with stressful jobs.
‘Therefore could you please be more quiet in future.’
An overwhelming amount of Reddit users were furious to read Matt’s message to the tour guide.
One even went as far as to say they had a ‘hatred brewing’ for the London worker, adding: ‘He’s really rubbed me up the wrong way.’
Others thought Matt’s behaviour was ridiculous, writing: ‘So the tour guide isn’t allowed to do his job then?!’
Another continued: ‘Does Matt not realise that the tour guide also has a job, and Matt shouted at that tour guide for doing their job?’
Some branded the jobholder as a ‘f*****g pillock’, with one person commenting: ‘Matt, The world doesn’t revolve around you and your overpaid (most likely) consultancy or financial nonsense job.’
Certain commenters advised the London worker to make a career change, saying: ‘if your job is so stressful that it leads you to shouting at strangers, your job is not good for you and your entourage and you need to think about making change.’
Others were slightly more on the fence with the situation, stating it was ‘nice’ Matt apologised, ‘but it’s a bit mental to try to control the noise in the streets of London.’
But not everyone was on the tour guides side, with one individual reasoning: ‘I’ll get down-voted but I think Matt sounds sensible.’
‘He lost his temper and apologised, not many people would bother apologising.’
A person quipped: ‘Those London tour guide with the megaphones are annoying to be honest.’
Reddit users hit out as the London worker, with some stating he was ‘mental’ for trying to control the noise on the city streets
Others saw the humorous side to the petulant apology message, with one writing: ‘He certainly doesn’t sound sorry. You could say he has a…bad Mattitude.’
Another jibbed: ‘Plot twist: Matt’s a rival tour guide. You’ve all just assumed he works in an office.’
This comes after night time industry experts warned overnight workers in London face paying the ULEZ charge twice if their shift goes past midnight.
London drivers with non-compliant ULEZ vehicles face a £12.50 daily charge if they drive in any of the 32 London boroughs.
The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), a union that represents companies that operate between 6pm and 6am, predicted that around 40,000 jobholders could have to pay the £12.50 charge on their way to work – and on their return.
The union has urged London Mayor, Sadiq Khan to ‘rectify his assault on night time workers.’
