HBO Max has enlisted Finn Wittrock as Guy Gardner in its upcoming Green Lantern series.
According to reports, the show will reimagine the DC staple using a story that covers several decades and other galaxies. It begins on Earth in 1941 with Alan Scott, the first ever Green Lantern, half-alien Bree Jarta and Gardner. The trio will be joined by other Lanterns that have both been featured in comic books and never seen before. Wittrock’s Gardner is described as “a hulking mass of masculinity, and, as rendered in the comics, an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism” yet still “likeable.”
The forthcoming series will be written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith, executive produced by the three alongside Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden and David Katzenberg, while Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi will co-executive produce.
Wittrock is known for his appearances in American Horror Story: Freak Show, Hotel and Roanoke, plus his roles in La La Land and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, the latter of which earned him his second Emmy nomination.
In other Green Lantern news, the Green Lantern actor in Justice League: The Snyder Cut has spoken up about being left out from the film.
