Burger King news: Takeaway chain set to reopen in every UK city by end of May

Takeaway favourite Burger King revealed the strategy as it announced a further eight restaurants will be reopening in the UK starting from tomorrow. The stream of reopenings includes its first Drive Thru location to open since the coronavirus caused closures across the country.

The eight reopenings include restaurants based in both England and Scotland as the business ramps up its recovery plan amid the pandemic.

The phased reopening plan began earlier this month as Burger King opened just four initial restaurants to test the waters as it tried to get back on its feet.

The move was clearly a success as eight more are opening from Wednesday, with locations including Dundee, Southampton, Reading, Merton and Aberdeen on the list.

The restaurants are open for delivery services only, plus the Havant Drive Thru location which is the first to be back up and running.

Customers can order via Deliveroo and Just Eat to get their hands on their favourite takeaway food.

However, while some customers may still feel left out if the now 12 open stores aren’t in their area, the chain has announced the good news that more reopenings are coming.

Burger King said it plans to reopen one restaurant in every city by 31st May.

Marking a huge step of progress for the business, the move will see a further 12 reopenings over the following consecutive weeks.

The company has taken the government’s advice and implemented strict hygiene measures to ensure its staff are safe to go back to work.

All Burger King staff have been trained on the social distancing measures, including how to run kitchens hygienically during the crisis.

The kitchens will be cleaned to a high standard and staff have been given PPE such as gloves and masks for when they’re working.

The deliveries via the partner apps are also contactless so customers can stay safe at home.

As lockdown continues and Burger King slowly begins a new normal, the chain is offering a limited menu to its customers.

However, the company has reassured its regulars that fan favourites such as the chicken Royale, Bacon Double Cheeseburger and the Whopper will all be available to order.

The newly reopened restaurants will be open from midday until 11pm so customers can get their fast food fix.

The stores have also been doing their bit to say thank you to key workers.

To show gratitude to the NHS, Burger King has been donating meals to staff working at NHS hospitals during the lockdown.

The chain has said it will continue to provide the service to staff who work at hospitals that are local to the reopened restaurants in England and Scotland.

Katie Evans, Marketing Director at Burger King UK called the good news a “huge step forward”.

As the first Drive Thru reopens as a trial to see how it works under lockdown, it’s hoped that others will be able to follow suit around the UK as Birtons continue to stay at home and limit their shopping trips.
