Bryson DeChambeau accidentally struck an unsuspecting spectator with his first monster drive of this year’s Ryder Cup.
The 28-year-old American will have been desperate to make an impact after missing out on the morning foursomes but this probably wasn’t quite what he had in mind.
Paired with Scottie Scheffler for the afternoon fourballs at Whistling Straits,DeChambeau hit a wayward 330-yard shot in the direction of a group of fans behind the bunker to the left of the green on the first.
Many have criticisedDeChambeau for failing to shout ‘fore’ in the past and the female spectator appeared completely oblivious to the fact the ball was hurtling towards her right ankle.
DeChambeau is renowned for his extraordinary power from the tee and there were audible gasps in the crowd as the fan in question clutched her lower leg in agony.
After holing his putt for a half with Tyrrell Hatton,DeChambeau made sure to apologise and the spectator went away with a souvenir to remember the moment in the shape of a ball signed by the 2020 US Open champion.
