Breathe new life into your wardrobe & get rid of tough stains with our top tips

RECYCLING doesn’t apply only to your household waste.

In the wake of Oxfam’s Second-Hand September, breathe new life into your wardrobe in October.

Follow these fab tips from my savvy stylists . . .

Think pink: The Pink Stuff is a much-praised “miracle” cleaning paste and a Mrs Hinch favourite. A member of the Facebook group Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It brought her white Converse trainers back to life with it.

She posted: “Let them sit with The Pink Stuff on for about two hours then put them on a 40C wash and leave to air dry outside.” Her grubby kicks came out looking like new. Pick up a pot of The Pink Stuff at Sainsbury’s for £1.

Absolutely astonished: Fake tan is a nightmare on clothes. One mum on Facebook group Hinch Army Cleaning Tips got her daughter’s tan-tainted school shirts white again using the stain remover Astonish. She wrote: “Soak your whites in Astonish for ten minutes before sticking them in the wash at 50C.”

Let it soak: Mud gets everywhere in winter, as parents of active kids know only too well. But canny mum Ashley Baxter got her daughter’s shirts clean using Milton sterilising fluid. Ashley said: “Mix one part Milton with three parts boiling water in a large bowl, soak the shirt for two hours then pop on a white wash.” A one-litre bottle of Milton is £2.60 at Wilko.

Tablet service: One thrifty poster on Facebook group Mums Who Clean threw her husband’s grimy hi-vis work gear into the wash along with four dishwasher tablets. She said: “It didn’t get everything out but they are much better.” At Asda, 60 all-in-one citrus tablets are a fiver.

Liquid love: Before you throw out your kids’ summer sandals, try washing-up liquid. Another Mums Who Clean user got sandals good as new with “dishwashing liquid, a little water and a lot of scrubbing with a grout brush”. Morrisons Berry Blitz liquid is now just 36p, down from 60p.
