Since becoming the creative director of Balmain in 2011, Olivier Rousteing has carved out an image of luxury and contemporary elegance at the French house. In continuing this vision, his latest women’s campaign for the house’s Fall/Winter 2023 season enlisted the help of trailblazing photographer, Rafael Pavarotti, known for his knack for ultra-rich images.
“For our Balmain Fall 2023 campaign, that focus on heritage and craftsmanship continues to drive us,” said Rousteing. “So, there’s no props, no dream locations, no CGI—for these images and videos, the camera is simply and exquisitely centered on precise Parisian tailoring and architectural volumes, helping make clear that this collection builds directly upon Pierre Balmain’s audacious and enduring ‘New French Style.’”
With the two creative names working together, the campaign came to life through regal ensembles and strikingly vivid images that carried them to new dimensions. Quilted floor-length coats, draped full-body dresses, sculptural blazer-like midi dresses, reimagined suit pieces, remixed bow tops, dazzlingly feminine yet sultry blouses and more line the images. But the ensembles’ hues of fuschia, hot pink, black, crystal silver, crimson red and more and aptly juxtaposed with gradient floral and jewel tones backdrops – providing a sense of balance and intrigue.
“Developing the concept for this campaign with Olivier was a deeply creative experience,” said Pavarotti. “By highlighting the heritage of the House of Balmain, we were able to create something different, beautiful and timeless. I couldn’t be happier with the results.”
