Aldi is selling a 50-inch 4K Smart TV today for a price you won’t believe

If you’ve been patiently waiting for Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day to treat yourself to a new television – you won’t have to wait any longer. That’s because supermarket giant Aldi is currently offering a 50-inch 4K Smart TV for a ridiculously low £279.99.

As you might expect, it’s not a household brand name – like Samsung, Sony, or Philips. The affordable 50-inch Smart TV is from Medion, which is owned by Lenovo. Lenovo has an incredibly good reputation when it comes to smartphones, laptops and more. And while we haven’t had a chance to clap eyes on this telly – on paper, it sounds like a real treat.

The Smart TV boasts HDR (which stands for High Dynamic Range and brings improved contrast levels to make gloomier scenes easier to watch), built-in Freeview (which will soon include one of Sky TV’s exclusive channels), Dolby Vision, WiFi and even ethernet for a hard-wired internet connection.

With a 50Hz panel, the Medion Smart TV uses LCD – albeit with LED backlighting. It has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, which means it qualifies as Ultra HD. So, if you pay for the top-tier Netflix subscription you will be able to binge boxsets and watch the latest movies in the crisp pixel-packed quality.

As you’d expect from a modern television, this 50-inch Smart TV is wall-mountable and boasts a smartphone app that works as a remote control – in case you’ve lost the remote down the back of the sofa but need to quickly change channels or drop the volume.

There’s also no need to buy a Roku Streaming Stick or Chromecast as there are Netflix and Amazon Prime Video apps included. The TV can record to an external hard-drive connected via USB and sports 4 HDMI 2.0 ports, which should be enough for set-top boxes, game consoles, Blu-Ray players, and more.

If you’re a bit concerned about the brand name or the fact that Aldi is best known for aggressively priced baked beans and vegetables – not TVs, you’ll be pleased to know that the telly comes with a three year warranty.

The Smart TVs will begin shipping today, September 3, 2020. It’s worth noting that the telly is only available online – not in-store. So it could prove to be a hugely popular buy as you don’t need to have an Aldi local to you to get your hands on this bargain.
