Helping out others in the midst of the pandemic, the filmmaker behind ‘A Madea Family Funeral’ leaves a tip of $500 for each of the 42 servers at a Houston restaurant.
AceShowbiz –Tyler Perry is providing some financial relief to those hit hard by the coronavirus crisis. While many celebrities chose to donate food to those in needs or to provide the health care workers battling the pandemic with warm meals, the filmmaker behind “Tyler Perry’s a Madea Family Funeral” has left generous tips to restaurant workers in Atlanta.
On Sunday, April 5, the 50-year-old actor/director has given away a $500 tip to each of the 42 out-of-work servers at his favorite Houston restaurant which was located on the Northside Parkway. Per reported by TMZ, his big tips amounted to the total of $21,000. Prior to this act, he regularly visited the restaurant to pick up some meals.
Fans have since taken to Twitter to praise Perry for his generosity. One said, “Not at all surprised. Love Tyler Perry & he sure does give back!!” A second one wrote, “Tyler Perry I want to personally thank you. I have been praying for our staff.” A third tweeted, “Kudos to @tylerperry for the tip you left at Houstons! I grew up going to that Houstons with my Dad. You made my heart smile. Stay safe!”
News about Perry’s act of kindness came two weeks after the longtime partner of model Gelila Bekele kicked off #HesGotTheWholeWorldChallenge to raise awareness over the global COVID-19 pandemic. Taking to Instagram, he posted a video of him singing “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”.
The director and producer of “A Fall from Grace” further encouraged people to participate in the challenge by singing the same rendition. He said, “It’s my hope that we add to this simple song in every language from every nation as we let it become a prayer for our whole world! God bless you today. And remember it’s all in God’s hands!”
“To me this song is a prayer of humility. It’s telling the world how small we really are in all of this and how we have to trust that it’s all in God’s hands!! So here’s round two as we keep praying for the world!! Feel free to join us!!”
A number of celebrities, including Adrienne Bailon, Patti LaBelle, Billy Ray Cyrus, Usher and Mariah Carey, have since answered his challenge with their own cover of “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”.
