Strictly: Amanda and Giovanni are saved from elimination
Giovanni Pernice has opened up about life under the glitterball and what the future holds for him.
The Italian dancer, 33, is the longest-serving male professional on the hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing and has been paired with celebrities including Debbie McGee, Georgia May Foote, Michelle Visage and Faye Tozer.
Speaking to Radio Times about where his future lies, he said: “I’m not sure what’s happening in the future, you know? I can tell you what’s happening in the present.”
He went on to say: “I’m here, focused with Amanda and trying to do another great routine. And the future – who knows? Strictly is a show that changed my life.
“I will be there for as long as they want me.”

During the interview, Giovanni also spoke about how he feels when he’s on the dancefloor.
He said: “Dancing itself is a beautiful thing. It’s been with me all my life, since I was seven years old.
“I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else, because it’s a way to express yourself. Dancing is what I do. It’s the only thing I know how to do in my life at the moment.”

In 2021 Giovanni won the coveted Glitterball trophy when he was paired with actress Rose Ayling-Ellis.
Rose became the first deaf contestant to take part in the show and created one of the show’s most iconic moments as they danced without music to raise awareness for the deaf community.
This year, however, Giovanni has been paired with actress Amanda Abbington. And whilst he will be competing with Amanda, he won’t be in all the group dances that the pros take part in.
When covid hit, BBC bosses decided to pre-record the group numbers during the summer. Despite covid restrictions now being lifted, they decided to continue pre-recording the group dances in the summer before the series kicked off.
However, whilst performing in his stage show Him & Me with Strictly legend and judge Anton du Beke back in July, Giovanni injured his ankle. He was advised to take a break from dancing in order to rest, meaning that he missed out on a few of the group numbers.
But you can still see him perform each week and you can read the full interview with Giovanni in the Radio Times, which is out now.
