Sam Thompson speaks out on Strictly hopeful Zara McDermotts painful cheating

Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott get competitive

Strictly’s Zara McDermott – formerly a Love Island contestant – ended up asking for her boyfriend’s forgiveness after admitting to being unfaithful in 2020 during a stint on The X Factor: Celebrity.

However, the 26-year-old’s beau, Sam Thompson of Made in Chelsea, says he’s now forgiven her and put the infidelity down to her age.

Recalling the incident on his Staying Relevant podcast with Pete Wicks, he exclaimed: “She was 22… so f****** young.”

He claimed that her eyes told him her apology was sincere, explaining: “You know when you look at them and you go, ‘She ain’t going to do that again? I could see in her face.'”

He then alluded to his own situation, adding: “You’d be some w***** to have done it yourself and can’t forgive.”

When her infidelity became public knowledge in scenes filmed for Made in Chelsea, Zara had publicly apologised – and Sam soon accepted it.

“A huge mistake I made a year ago has recently come to light and I want to face this head-on,” she said at the time.

“I don’t condone being unfaithful and I made a huge mistake at a time in my life where I was hugely selfish and immature.”

Zara went on: “I believe I have learnt so much from my mistake. I want to apologise to my Sam for everything I have put him through, for the pain, the embarrassment, the anger and the hurt.

“All I want to do is make this right and I think the least he deserves is me being honest with myself and all of you. I love you Sam. Forever x.”

Zara – the first Love Island contestant ever to make the switch to Strictly – received a second chance from her boyfriend, who rationalised: “We all make mistakes.”

Meanwhile, Sam also appeared to make an unintended mistake when he seemingly revealed the first dance he thought she would take part in on the show.

The 31-year-old told the world on his Hits Radio show that he and Zara had been “waltzing” around the kitchen, leading some to believe he’d let a secret slip.

“I’ve been dancing a lot in my household – the prep is real at our gaff,” he joked.

“I genuinely think I’ve waltzed around the kitchen with Zara about 50 times right now and I don’t even know how to waltz!”

However, Zara later came onto Instagram during a Q&A to clarify that even she didn’t know what her first dance would be.

She told almost three million followers: “We know just about as much as you guys. Your guess is as good as mine! We don’t know what dances we are doing… that will come later after we find out our partners.”
