JK Rowling today revealed she was releasing a surprise book – titled The Ickabog – and while it’s got nothing to do with Harry Potter, safe to say fans have lost it.
In a lengthy thread posted to Twitter on Tuesday, the iconic author shared the announcement, also adding she wanted fans to illustrate the tale.
Dragged down from a dusty box in her attic, Rowling began rifling through the half-typed-half-hand-written manuscript more than 10 years after putting pen to paper.
(Honestly – the power of that woman to drag a book down from her attic weeks ago and already be publishing.)
Even more exciting was the move from the queen to publish it from today, chapter by chapter, to ease the boredom of kids still stuck in quarantine lockdown.
She began on Twitter: ‘I have a small announcement, but before I get started, I want to head off one possible source of confusion. THIS IS NOT A HARRY POTTER SPIN-OFF.’
Well then, we read that one loud and clear.
‘I’ll be suggesting ideas for pictures as we go, but nobody should feel constrained by my ideas. Let your imaginations run wild!’
The billionaire author also intends to donate her author royalties from the published books – which will land on shelves in November – ‘to projects and organisations helping the groups most impacted by Covid-19’.
She concluded: ‘The first two chapters of The Ickabog will be going live in a couple of hours time. Whether you read it yourself, or have it read to you, I hope you enjoy it.’
We’ll for sure be keeping our eyes peeled for more information as it comes, but until then we’ll enjoy the mayhem of fans who are going wild over this exciting news.
Rowling’s last published fiction came in the form of Lethal White, part of her Cormoran Strike series, under the name Robert Galbraith.
