First Dates Merlin Griffiths gets all clear result after bowel cancer battle

First Dates star Merlin Griffiths has received an "all clear" scan result after suffering with bowel cancer.

The 48 year old announced the happy news on social media, as he shared a snap of the email he received after his scan.

It read said:"Your CT scan has just come through. All looks good, there are no signs of any reoccurrence. Hope this is reassuring."

In his post caption, Merlin wrote: "Final Year 1 scan results are in, and it's ALL CLEAR for now.

"Nice. Thank you #NHS #bowelcancerawareness".

Merlin's Instagram followers rushed to offer their congratulations and best wishes including TV chef, James Martin.

He wrote: "Brilliant news fella just brilliant see you at the house and stay for a glass or 4."

Merlin responded: "@jamesmartinchef thank you James. You've been a big part of my positivity the last few years mate. "

Merlin's fellow First Dates star Laura Tott, who is a waitress on the show, wrote: "Amazing to read!' to which Merlin replied: "@lauratott__ thank you Lozza!"

A fan wrote: "Smashed that cancer to smithereens. Nice job!" with a red love heart emoji.

Someone else commented: "Brilliant news Merlin am thrilled for you," as another said: "Amazing news for you and your family!!!sending love keep it up xx"

In 2021, Merlin announced that he had been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

In an interview with the Sunday Mirror, the star discussed the moment he told his seven year old daughter Alix the heartbreaking news.

"I said, ‘Dad’s got cancer’. She said, ‘Is that bad, Dad?’

“I said, ‘Yes, it’s very serious but I think it should be OK. Modern medicine’s great and if anything changes I’ll let you know.’"

Merlin continued: "She understands that people can die but I told her cancer comes in different varieties and in different ways too – and that many people come through it.”

He began to feel pain in June but assumed it was caused by scar tissue he already had, due to a car accident he was in aged 20.

After further investigation, doctors discovered Merlin had a 4.5cm Stage 3 tumour.

"I thought, as most people must when they get a diagnosis, ‘Oh f***, I’ve got cancer’" Merlin revealed.

He added: “I also wanted to know, what are my chances of surviving? It’s terrifying – of course I want to live.

“I’ve shed a tear in private. But you can choose ‘to do’ or ‘not to do’. I chose to lead my life as normal, to stick to the facts about it, and to keep putting one step in front of the other.”

Merlin has often provided fans with an update of his battle with bowel cancer, so no doubt they, as well as he himself are thrilled with the news that he is clear of the disease.
