Dan Walker, 43, has spoken candidly about his co-star Naga Munchetty, 45, who announced she was joining BBC Radio 5 Live’s mid-morning show last month. The TV anchor will present the show three-days a week while continuing her role on BBC Breakfast.

Dan has now addressed his colleague’s latest move, as he praised Naga for taking on the new challenge.

The dad-of-three cheekily joked that he was unsure how his BBC co-star would “fit golf in”, due to her “busy schedule”.

Dan also juggles various projects away from the morning series, fronting Football Focus and more recently The NFL Show.

The broadcaster revealed that he and Naga often message each other, as the BBC host congratulated the newsreader.

“I’m not sure how she’s going to fit golf in,” Dan joked. “You can tell she’s not got any children.”

He went on: “We’re always on the phone or texting each other. We’re both golf obsessed so we play a bit of golf.”

Naga has been married to her husband James Haggar for 16 years and has previously spoken about not having children.

“I’m past the age now where people expect me to have children. But people can be quite forthright, ‘Oh, you can’t have them?'” the presenter said on BBC Radio 5 Live earlier this year.

She added: “I think people find it unusual that both in the relationship have agreed or decided or come to the conclusion that they don’t want children.”

Speaking about her latest move, Dan remarked: “I listened to Naga when she did the show before on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“One of the jobs that I was doing before I took over Breakfast was the afternoon show on Radio 5 Live.

“I’ve spoken to Naga before about how much I enjoyed it and I still love radio now.”

Dan praised his colleague for having broad knowledge across all areas of news.

“I heard Naga on the radio when she was sitting in for it and she was so good and so comfortable,” he commented.

“I think if you do the Breakfast job you have to be across everything.

“From news to light entertainment to sport and everything in between. And Naga is so across all that stuff.”

He added: “She’s so capable of doing that job I think that she’ll be brilliant.

“She’s going to be a busy, busy old bee.”

Elsewhere, the small-screen star released his new book Remarkable People: Extraordinary Stories of Everyday Lives, where he recounts inspiring stories of people that he has met throughout his long-standing career.

Dan has explained that he hopes the heartfelt book will “uplift” people.

“What I really wanted people to take away from it, is that struggling is not failing,” the presenter said about his project.

“We all face struggles in life and for some people that battle is illness, stress, abuse whatever it might be.”

He added: “It’s possible to not only change your own circumstances but to have a significant impact on the people around you.”

Remarkable People by Dan Walker is published by Headline and is out now.
